CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, has explained the reasoning behind the increase in prize money for the 2024 Championship of African Nations (CHAN), afrosportnews.com reports.
On Tuesday, the South African announced a $3.5 million reward for the winner of the upcoming tournament.
He stressed the significance of the competition for the continent’s football development.
He stated, “The CHAN is crucial for the growth and advancement of Africa-based footballers and young talent, and it will play a key role in enhancing the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.”
“This tournament is part of our strategy to invest in African football, making it more appealing to fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners, and stakeholders both in Africa and around the world,” he concluded.
