Enyimba’s hopes of advancing in the CAF Confederation Cup hang in the balance after they drew 1-1 with Al Masry of Egypt in their Group D clash on Sunday. The match, played in Uyo, saw Enyimba come from behind to earn a point, afrosportnews.com reports.
Al Masry took the lead in the 8th minute through Mohamed Hashem’s goal. However, Enyimba equalized two minutes after the break, courtesy of Ifeanyi Ihemekwele’s header. The hosts’ goalkeeper, Ani Ozoemena, made a crucial save from Mahmoud Hamada’s penalty kick in the 68th minute.
The draw leaves Enyimba in third position in Group D with five points. The Nigerian side faces a daunting task in their final group game, as they travel to face holders Zamalek of Egypt next Sunday.
Zamalek has already booked their spot in the quarterfinals, following a 3-1 win over Black Bulls of Mozambique. Enyimba will need a positive result against Zamalek to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
