Neymar Makes Emotional Return to Santos After 12 Years

Brazil striker Neymar made an emotional return to Santos, the club where he began his career, after a 12-year absence. The 33-year-old rejoined Santos on January 31 from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, marking a significant moment in his career.

Neymar’s return to the pitch was also a successful one, as he impressed in the second half of Santos’ 1-1 draw with Botafogo. Despite still recovering from an injury, Neymar showed glimpses of his old self, dribbling and running with ease.

The match was a special occasion for Neymar, who was greeted with adoration by the Santos fans. He was also mobbed by Botafogo players and staff after the final whistle, all of whom were eager to take photos with the Brazilian superstar.

Neymar’s first stint with Santos was a highly successful one, during which he won six trophies, including the 2011 Copa Libertadores. He left the club at the age of 21, having scored 136 goals in 225 appearances.

Santos, the former club of Brazilian legend Pele, has undergone significant changes since Neymar’s departure. The club was relegated from the top division in 2023 but earned promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking last season.
