Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini is refusing to back down in his ongoing spat with Ademola Lookman, following their explosive fallout after the club’s UEFA Champions League exit.
The tension erupted last week when Gasperini publicly criticized the Nigerian star for missing a crucial penalty, prompting an angry response from Lookman, who called his manager’s comments “disrespectful.”
But the drama didn’t end there. After Atalanta’s dominant 5-0 win over Empoli on Sunday, Gasperini took another jab at the winger, reminding everyone that while Lookman has been a key player for the team, success is a two-way street.
“Lookman has always scored a lot of goals, at least since he joined Atalanta,” Gasperini said in a press conference. “He has become an extraordinary player, especially when he puts himself at the disposal of the team. He said he feels a bond with the fans, and I appreciate that very much.”
