The 5th edition of the Ibadan Cycling Competition, organized by Lapet Feats International in partnership with the Oyo State Sports Council and Cycling Association, promises to be a thrilling event. Scheduled for Friday, August 8, to honor the late Coach Olalere Alao, a grassroots sports advocate, the competition will feature over 100 young cyclists from Oyo State and beyond. With categories spanning Under 7, 10, 14, and 17, the event aims to nurture future cycling stars while promoting fitness and discipline among youths.
This year’s competition will see fierce rivalry as emerging talents compete in various age groups. Participants from neighboring states like Osun, Lagos, and Ogun are expected to join, building on the success of previous editions that attracted 120 cyclists. The inclusion of a veterans’ ride—open to coaches, parents, and enthusiasts—adds an exciting dimension, bridging generations and fostering community engagement in the sport.
Prizes for winners include cycling kits and educational materials, reinforcing the organizers’ commitment to balancing athletic and academic excellence. The event not only celebrates sporting prowess but also encourages holistic development, aligning with Coach Alao’s legacy of youth empowerment. Young cyclists will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, gain exposure, and learn from experienced riders and coaches.
Adebayo Olawale, the convener, expressed optimism about this year’s edition, emphasizing its role in talent discovery. “We are building on past successes to create a bigger platform for young cyclists,” he said. The competition’s growth reflects rising interest in cycling across the South-West, with Lapet Feats leading efforts to elevate the sport’s profile in the region.
Mark your calendars for a day of speed, skill, and sportsmanship as Ibadan hosts this exciting cycling spectacle. With over 100 riders expected, the 5th Ibadan Cycling Competition is set to inspire a new generation of champions while paying tribute to a legend who shaped Oyo State’s sporting landscape. Don’t miss the action!
