The Showtyme Foundation has announced the 2025 edition of its Annual Sickle Cell Awareness Programme, tagged “Double Check Your Status & Ball”, scheduled to hold on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the iconic Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State. The event, which kicks off at 9:00 AM, aims to combine health advocacy with sports, using basketball as a tool to engage and educate the public on the importance of genotype awareness.
The initiative continues to create vital awareness about Sickle Cell Anaemia, particularly among young people. Participants will have access to free genotype testing, health screenings, and counselling sessions, all conducted by qualified medical professionals. The programme also includes a one-day basketball competition, designed to attract and inform the youth in a fun and active setting.
Shola Durojaye, CEO of Showtyme Foundation, emphasized the personal motivation behind the campaign, citing the tragic loss of his daughter to Sickle Cell complications. “This is more than just an event for us. It’s about saving lives by helping people avoid avoidable mistakes like mine — assuming your genotype is AA when it’s not,” he shared.
The foundation is calling on students, athletes, families, and the general public to participate in the free event. “Don’t just check your status — double check it,” Durojaye stressed, adding that the team has made adequate preparations to ensure a smooth and impactful programme.
As part of the activities for Sickle Cell Awareness Month, the event promises not only to educate but also to inspire action within the community.
