Veteran coach Gbenga Ogunbote is reportedly on the verge of making a dramatic return to the Nigeria Premier Football League, with Kwara United poised to appoint him as their new technical adviser. Sources close to the club reveal Ogunbote is now the leading candidate to take over after the sudden sacking of head coach Tunde Sanni.
Sanni was shown the exit door on Sunday following a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Abia Warriors, a result that proved to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy. With the team underperforming, the management is moving fast to bring in a seasoned tactician who can steady the ship and reignite their campaign.
Ogunbote, who left Shooting Stars just before the current season began, is no stranger to top-flight management. Nicknamed “The Oracle” for his ability to revive struggling teams, he has had successful spells with top NPFL sides including Enyimba and Rangers, where he built a reputation for tactical discipline and strong results.
However, he’s not the only name in the mix — Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu is also reportedly being considered by the Ilorin-based club.
