Mid-Air Scare! Cracked Windshield Delays Super Eagles Ahead of World Cup Clash

The Super Eagles’ crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic has hit a snag after their chartered ValueJet aircraft suffered a cracked windscreen mid-air. The team was en route from Polokwane, South Africa to Uyo when the incident occurred shortly after a refueling stop in Luanda, Angola. Thankfully, the pilot managed to return the plane safely to the Luanda airport.

This same aircraft had previously flown the team to South Africa and had completed multiple refueling stops in Luanda without issue. However, the mid-air damage forced an emergency return, delaying the team’s scheduled arrival in Uyo ahead of Tuesday’s high-stakes qualifier.

In response, the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that another aircraft is being arranged to complete the journey. Efforts are currently underway involving ValueJet, the Ministry of Aviation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chief of Staff to the President to secure the necessary flight clearances.

Despite the setback, officials remain optimistic that the team will arrive in time for their final preparations. Fans across the nation are anxiously awaiting updates as the Super Eagles aim to keep their World Cup dream alive.
