Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has described tonight’s World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic as the most important match of his entire coaching career.
The Malian tactician knows what’s at stake — only a win will keep Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes alive. The Super Eagles will lock horns with their West African neighbours at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in a make-or-break encounter that could define Chelle’s legacy.
Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, a visibly charged Chelle couldn’t hide his emotions.
“For me, as a coach, it’s maybe the most important game of my career,” he admitted.
“I’m happy, I’m excited — sometimes a little nervous — but I like the pressure.”
The tension is sky-high as millions of Nigerian fans prepare for the 5 PM kickoff, knowing that anything short of victory could crush the nation’s dream of returning to the biggest stage in world football — the FIFA World Cup.
All eyes are now on Uyo — where Eric Chelle and his Super Eagles must soar or fall.

Good one
