Premier League Breaks Silence on Controversial Van Dijk Goal Disallowed Against Man City

The Premier League has explained why Virgil van Dijk’s header against Manchester City was ruled out during Sunday’s clash at the Etihad.

Van Dijk thought he’d leveled the score at 1–1, but VAR disallowed the goal for offside, ruling that Andy Robertson’s movement interfered with City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s ability to play the ball — even though Robertson didn’t touch it.

Officials said Robertson’s positioning was “an obvious action impacting an opponent,” meaning the goal couldn’t stand.

The decision sparked debate among fans, many arguing Donnarumma wouldn’t have reached the ball anyway.

City went on to win 3–0, closing the gap on leaders Arsenal to four points, while Liverpool slipped to eighth with 18 points.
