Nigerian international Semi Ajayi has made a successful return to action for West Bromwich Albion in a Premier League 2 victory over Newcastle United on Monday night. Ajayi played the entire first half as he continues to build up his fitness.
Ajayi had been sidelined for around four months with a hamstring injury sustained in a Sky Bet Championship clash with Cardiff City last October. His return to action is a welcome boost for West Bromwich Albion and the Nigerian national team.
Ajayi’s recovery is expected to be complete within the next two weeks, making him available for selection in the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March. Nigeria is set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the qualifiers.
Ajayi’s return to fitness will be a significant boost for Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle, who will be looking to include the experienced center-back in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
