Shooting Stars FC Axes Gbenga Ogunbote, Dimeji Lawal After Disappointing Season

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has announced the immediate dismissal of Technical Adviser Gbenga Ogunbote, General Manager Dimeji Lawal, and the entire technical team following a lackluster finish to the 2024/25 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Ogunbote, who returned for his third spell with the Oluyole Warriors in August 2022 after a stint with Remo Stars, spent nearly three years at the club. Under his leadership, 3SC secured the Doxy Nmobuosi Super Cup, the Oyo State Federation Cup, and the Seyi Makinde Football Volunteer Movement trophy.

However, a dismal second-half performance in the just-concluded NPFL season—with only four wins, six draws, and eight losses in 18 matches—left the team in eighth place, prompting the management to make sweeping changes.

Earlier this month, club officials had denied rumors of Ogunbote’s potential move to Kano Pillars, insisting he would see out his remaining one-year contract. But recent developments have forced a sudden reversal in the club’s plans.

A source close to the club revealed that 3SC is already scouting for an experienced replacement to take charge before the new NPFL season kicks off on August 22, 2025.

The Oluyole Warriors recently featured in the Eko International Cup as part of their preseason preparations, signaling their intent to rebound stronger in the upcoming campaign.
