Oyo’s Young Cyclists Shine at 5th Ibadan Cycling Competition

The 5th Ibadan Cycling Competition concluded on Friday, August 8, 2025, with Oyo State’s young cyclists dominating yet again. In the Under 7 Male division, Hamzat Adam clinched first place, displaying remarkable speed and endurance, while Asemota Joseph and Akinola Daniel secured second and third, respectively. The Under 7 Female category saw Rilwan Firdaous take gold, followed by Olanma Ugboduma in second and Nobeelah Abdulsalam in third, showcasing the future of Nigerian cycling. 

The Under 10 Male race was fiercely contested, with Dada Ayomide emerging victorious, while Adewole Adeoye and Ridwandan Fuad claimed silver and bronze. In the Under 10 Female division, Olaosebikan Oluwasanmisire rode to first place, demonstrating exceptional skill, with Hamzat Damilola and Bello Sofiat finishing closely behind in second and third. These young athletes proved that age is no barrier to excellence in competitive cycling. 

The Under 14 Male category was a thrilling showdown, with Akinola Destiny defending his dominance by securing another gold medal. Ibrahim Abdulsalam and Goodluck Emmanuel completed the podium in second and third. Meanwhile, in the Under 14 Female race, Yakub Zamziat powered to victory, leaving Ogedengbe Temitayo and Abidoye Ayomide to take second and third, highlighting the growing depth of female cycling talent in the region. 

In the Under 17 Male division, Ajibade Ibrahim reaffirmed his status as one of Oyo’s brightest prospects, taking first place ahead of Marths Samuel and Michael Ali, who finished second and third. The Under 17 Female race was equally competitive, with Obadam Adeola claiming gold, while Azeez Hassanat and Enemali Goodness earned silver and bronze, capping off an impressive display of skill and determination. 

Organized by Lapet Feats in collaboration with the Oyo State Cycling Association, the event drew over 150 young cyclists from Oyo, Osun, Lagos, and Ogun states. Convener Adebayо Olawale while speaking with Boluwaji Ogunmola praised the participants, saying, “The level of talent on display this year was exceptional. These young athletes are proof that Nigerian cycling has a bright future.”

The competition continues to serve as a vital platform for nurturing the next generation of cycling champions in Nigeria.
