Premier League side Fulham have officially decided against signing Nigerian international winger Samuel Chukwueze on a permanent basis, ending his spell in West London.
The 27-year-old forward moved to Craven Cottage last summer on a season-long loan from Italian heavyweights AC Milan. While the initial agreement included a clear option for Fulham to make the transfer permanent for a fee of €24 million, the Cottagers’ board has ultimately chosen not to activate the buyout clause.
According to Italian outlet Tuttomercato, negotiations stalled in the final weeks of the campaign because Fulham considered the financial demands of the package too high, despite earlier hints that they wanted to retain his services. As a result, Chukwueze is now packed and scheduled to head back to San Siro this summer.
A Resurgent Campaign Stalled by Valuation
Chukwueze quickly adapted to the physical demands of English football, turning into a vital attacking asset for Fulham. Over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, the dynamic winger registered three goals and four assists for the club.
His explosive pace and directness down the right flank made him a firm fan favorite, notably delivering a standout performance where he scored twice against Manchester City.
However, despite rebuilding his reputation on English soil, the financial realities of a permanent deal proved to be a major obstacle. Fulham’s hesitation means the Super Eagles star must now return to a club where his long-term future remains highly uncertain.

Chukwueze’s return presents a complex puzzle for AC Milan. Before his temporary switch to London, the winger endured a highly frustrating and inconsistent two-year spell in Serie A following his big-money move from Villarreal.
