Portugal: Bernardo Silva Takes Over Captaincy from Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal have appointed Bernardo Silva as the new captain of the national team following Cristiano Ronaldo’s international retirement.
The decision comes after Ronaldo brought his 23-year career with Portugal to an end on Thursday.
According to The Touchline, the captaincy selection is based on the number of international appearances made by a player.
Silva has earned 115 caps and scored 14 goals since making his national team debut in 2015.
The midfielder has also won two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal, in 2019 and 2025.
