Portugal: Federation Rejects Quiet Ronaldo Retirement, Promises Special Farewell
The Portuguese Football Federation has promised to organise a special tribute for Cristiano Ronaldo following his retirement from international football.
The federation said it would not allow the country’s most-capped player and all-time leading scorer to end his national team career without proper recognition.
Ronaldo retired after making 234 appearances and scoring a record 146 goals for Portugal across 23 years.
The PFF praised his contribution to Portuguese football, particularly his role in the country’s Euro 2016 triumph and Nations League victories in 2019 and 2025.
Although details of the planned ceremony are yet to be announced, the federation reaffirmed that Ronaldo would always have a home in Portuguese football and urged him to continue chasing his ambition of scoring 1,000 career goals.
