Meet the New Boss: Eric Chelle Unveiled as Super Eagles Coach

Eric Chelle Unvelied

Eric Chelle has been officially unveiled as the new head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The ceremony took place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Monday. Chelle’s appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week.

Chelle, a former Mali international, becomes the 42nd substantive head coach of the Super Eagles. The 47-year-old has a daunting task ahead, as he is expected to revive Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying hopes. The Super Eagles have struggled in the qualifiers, sitting in fifth position in Group C with just three points from four games.

Chelle will also lead the home-based Super Eagles at the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). His appointment has been met with mixed reactions, with many Nigerian football fans and pundits expressing skepticism about his ability to succeed in the role.

Despite the initial backlash, the NFF is confident that Chelle has what it takes to turn the Super Eagles’ fortunes around. With his official unveiling now complete, Chelle can begin his work in earnest, focusing on the challenges ahead and plotting a course for success.
