The Ibadan Basketball Championship, an annual tournament showcasing the best of Oyo State’s male and female basketball talents, is set to return for its 4th edition, afrosportnews.com reports. 

The event, scheduled to take place on January 17th and 18th, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium (Adamasingba), Ibadan, promises to be an exciting display of basketball skills and entertainment.

The championship is the brainchild of ex-basketball players from Ibadan, now in diaspora, who have come together to give back to their community. 

According to Shola Durojaiye, a member of the Oyo State Basketball Association, speaking on behalf of Ballers in Diaspora, said the goal is to provide a platform for young basketball players in Oyo State to develop their skills, showcase their talents, and compete in a well-organized and rewarding tournament.

The two-day event will feature a series of thrilling matches, as well as exciting side attractions, including a free throws contest, 3-point shoot-out, wheelchair basketball foul shot, and wheelchair basketball 3-point contest. To add to the excitement, there will be live artist performances and snacks/drinks available for spectators.

The Ibadan Basketball Championship has a total prize money of ₦850,000, making it a highly competitive and rewarding event for participating teams. With the support of the Ballers in Diaspora, the championship promises to be a consistent and impactful event in the development of basketball in Oyo State.
