It was a weekend to forget for Nigerians across Europe and beyond, as several Super Eagles stars endured defeats, poor form, or frustrating nights on the pitch.
In Scotland, Kelechi Iheanacho missed key chances as Celtic fell 2–0 to Dundee — their first loss in the city in 37 years.
In France, Moses Simon struggled before being subbed off in Paris FC’s 2–1 defeat to Lens.
Down in South Africa, Stanley Nwabali’s heroics couldn’t save Chippa United from a 2–1 loss to Marumo Gallants, leaving them bottom of the league.
There was little joy in Belgium where Benjamin Fredrick came on late in Dender’s 3–1 defeat to Mechelen. In Italy, Ademola Lookman was lively but unlucky as Atalanta drew 0–0 with Lazio.
A few bright sparks emerged — Geoffrey Chinedu netted a hat-trick in Astana’s 5–3 win in Kazakhstan, and Edna Imade struck twice for Real Sociedad in Spain.
In the U.S., Victor Olatunji scored a brace to fire Real Salt Lake into the MLS playoffs, while Alhassan Yusuf grabbed a goal and assist for New England Revolution.
Back in England, Alex Iwobi made history with his 299th Premier League appearance, becoming Nigeria’s all-time record holder, though Fulham lost 1–0 to Arsenal. Taiwo Awoniyi returned from injury for Nottingham Forest, while in Turkey, Paul Onuachu scored again for Trabzonspor as Victor Osimhen hit the post for Galatasaray.
In Czech Republic, Rafiu Durosinmi continued his hot streak for Viktoria Plzen, while in Mexico, Lawal Taiwo and Vivian Ikechukwu inspired Santos Laguna’s 2–1 win.
