OKOYE DROPPED FROM SUPER EAGLES SQUAD AS CHELLE REPORTEDLY TAKES DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has reportedly been excluded from Nigeria’s squad for the back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania on November 13 and 17.

The 27-year-old is said to have arrived late for the previous international camp, reporting on the day of Nigeria’s match against Madagascar despite being granted an additional day off.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle had hinted at possible disciplinary measures, and his decision to leave Okoye out is reportedly the first step.

Francis Uzoho has been recalled, joining Arthur Okonkwo and Stanley Nwabali in the goalkeeping department, with Nwabali expected to retain his position as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Okoye’s latest omission could raise fresh questions about his international future, having previously opted out of Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup qualifying play-off against Ghana and the last two editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.
