Canada kicked off their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 campaign in style, thrashing Nigeria’s Flamingos 4–1 on Sunday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé.
The North Americans struck early through Gabriela Istocki in the 2nd minute, but Nigeria fought back as Queen Joseph leveled in the 30th after the Canadian keeper spilled Kaosarat Olanrewaju’s shot.
The second half, however, was all Canada. Substitute Melisa Kekic restored their lead in the 73rd minute before Julia Amireh bagged a quick brace (80’, 86’) to seal a commanding win.
Despite a bright first half, the Flamingos couldn’t cope with Canada’s pace and precision after the break.
Nigeria now face France on Wednesday in a must-win Group D clash to revive their hopes of progressing.
